The One Where I Register For a Half Marathon

It's done.  It's official.  I registered for the Great Lakes Bay Half Marathon.

Does it still count if I purchased the insurance so I'll get my money back if I freak out and decide I can't do it?  Half marathon training plan kicks in on February 25.  I hope to God it's warm enough {not below zero} that I can run outside by then.  The treadmill is killing my soul.

Got my new shoes in the mail yesterday!  Meet my Brooks Ghost 5s:
Did a 5k treadmill interval workout in them and they felt great.  Very light and I didn't feel like I was wearing clown shoes {not an easy task considering the size of my feet}.  So far I like them much better than the PureFlows.  Looking forward to comparing them to the Mizuno Wave Rider 15s when I get them.  I ordered from RoadRunner Sports and I am more than happy with the service.  I ordered the Ghosts on Sunday afternoon and they were delivered on Tuesday morning!  And because I am a VIP {only $1.99 for the first year} shipping was free!  And I have 90 days to try these out and if I decide I don't like them, I can exchange them for another pair.  Pretty sweet deal.

Best Body Bootcamp is moving along.  Completed 2.17 miles on the treadmill Monday {don't ask where that weird number came from} for the cardio portion then completed  strength Workout A.  Yesterday I did 5k on the treadmill for cardio and my core work consisted of a three minute plank.  Tonight is BodyWorks at the gym.  Thanks to JD's soccer schedule, I'm losing my Tuesday night at the gym beginning next week.  Temps are supposed to warm up so hopefully I'll be able to run outside instead.

In non-exercise related news, we are finally getting around to "remodeling" our kitchen.  I put that in quotation marks because we're not doing a full gut remodel; unfortunately, I will not be replacing the pink countertop that I hate nor will I be replacing the cabinets.  We are painting, adding a backsplash, and decorating {new towels, artwork, canisters, etc.}.  I started a Pinterest board to keep track of all the cute stuff I find online and now I just need to pick a color.  I know I want a cocoa color I just need to figure out which one.  I'm considering painting the cabinets and countertops but I'm not sure.  I'm totally afraid I'll screw it up and make it look worse than it already does.  We'll see how adventurous I get.  And how much my income tax refund is.

Anyone remodel anything lately?  Do you make a decision and get it done?  Or do you take forever {like me} to figure out what you want to do?

Has anyone painted their kitchen cabinets or countertop before?  We painted our bathroom vanity and it turned out nice.  Painting the kitchen cabinets and countertop terrifies me.

  1. I just signed a remodel contract on the master bathroom model, actually... I'm freaked out. It's a lot of money and scary to design something on your own. We're gutting everything, so I'm praying for no big surprises or set backs...

congrats on signing up for your 1/2! I can't decide on what one I want to do. Maybe since I can't commit that's a signal that I shouldn't do it? IDK. I hope the weather shapes up for running outdoors. The treadmill is killing me, too!

    1. Yay for you on the bath remodel! We did a semi-remodel of our master bath about 2 years ago {no gut job, just new paint and fixtures}. It took forever but it looks so much better. That would be awesome to have a contractor re-do the whole thing!

I really wanted to do the Bayshore Half in Traverse City Memorial Day weekend but it sold out the first day of registration. I'm sure some race will pop up on your radar that you'll want to run. But if not, that's OK, too!
