Working Against Me

Bag was packed, all set for the gym last night.  Nothing exciting planned, just a couple lazy miles on the treadmill {I HATE the treadmill but it's polar outside}.  My day was moving along well, nothing popped up in the morning at work that might keep me at the office late.

And then I went to lunch.  That's when the universe started to work against me.

Come out of the restaurant and press the unlock button on my key fob.  Nothing.  Pressed every single button on the key fob.  Nada.  What. The. Crap?!  Finally, open the door with the actual key {do people even do that anymore?!} and stick the key in the ignition.  Silence.  Not a sound.  Nothing happens.

CAR. IS. DEAD.

Call a local Lincoln dealership to see about having my car towed to them for repair.  They give me the number for Lincoln Roadside Assistance {I should get some kind of perk for the money I paid for this car} so I call and they tell me they'll send a tow truck out.  I hang up and get a text with the name of the tow company, their phone number and an ETA.  The ETA is exactly ONE HOUR from the time of the text.  Where the hell is this tow truck coming from?!  After an hour and a half and still no tow truck, I call the towing company {313 Towing - I'll NEVER use them}.  THEY HANG UP ON ME.  Finally, my brother-in-law, who's office happened to be directly across the street from the lot I was stranded in, comes over and jump starts my car and I'm able to drive to the dealership {Hines Park Lincoln in Plymouth for anyone local that's interested}.  My experience from there was fantastic: they gave me a free loaner car and took care of my issue {dead battery - go figure} for free.  They even washed my car!

So, here is what is going through my head while my car is at the dealership:
  • My key tag to check in at the gym is on my car keys!  That's OK, my picture is on file.  I'll just check in at the desk.
  • My gym clothes are in my car!  The gym is 30 miles away from house {it's two miles from my office} so going home for clothes and driving back is not an option.  I suppose I could run up to the dealership and get the clothes out of my car, but what if they close early?  I've already missed two hours at the office for this car debacle so I can't leave early to run up there.  I guess I'll just turn today into my rest day {Friday's are ALWAYS my rest day} and go to the gym tomorrow.
Crisis averted, as my car was ready for pick up by 5:00.  With all this chaos, I still managed to get to the gym and pound out two {very slow} miles.  Friday rest day is intact!

Robot was registered for our local dog park today so I'm looking forward to taking him up there this weekend.  Also on the agenda: a long{ish} run on Saturday and a nice walk with the dog on Sunday.  If this holds up, I'll have hit my goal to exercise 5 days this week {with the week ending on Sunday}.

How was your first week of the new year?

  2. So glad the troubles with your car are over (few things are as stressful) and you got to the gym! Major kudos for that!

What dog park do you take your pup to? We go to Swift Run - love it, except there's hardly any little dogs in the small dog area during the winter :(
