Calories, Makeup and Football

Why do weekends go by so fast?  I swear it was just Friday a minute ago.

I started in on my healthier eating goal by hitting up Costco Friday afternoon.  In my cart: lemons, blackberries, strawberries, nonfat milk, Kashi Go Lean Crunch {JD actually likes this cereal!}, Zima tomatoes, single-serve hummus and Sriracha {D and I LOVE this stuff}.  Saturday I hit up Kroger for a few more things.  Sierra mentioned So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer on her blog and I’ve been hunting for it ever since.  Finally found it at Kroger {I usually shop at Meijer}.  It was on sale, too!  Tried it in my coffee yesterday morning with a dash of cinnamon and it was delicious!  And only 20 calories and 4g of sugar per serving.  I also picked up greens and veggies for salads.  I planned out our meals for the week {not two weeks, but hey, it’s a start} and I even remembered my lunch this morning.  Someone give this girl a medal.

I won’t even tell you how badly I demolished my diet on Friday {dinner out + alcohol + girl talk = calorie overload}.  I made up for it the rest of the weekend, though.  Healthy eating, a ton of water and no alcohol on Saturday made me feel better.  Running {outside!}, walking and strength training on Sunday helped, also.  I even managed to survive a Super Bowl party yesterday without blowing my calorie budget.  Cue the singing angels.

On the blog front, I’ve been following the suggestions Katy made in the 28 Day Blog Challenge and they are already paying off.  I ordered business cards {they were free – only paid $5 for shipping} and I’m continuing to work behind the scenes to make this space better.

And yesterday I took JD makeup shopping.  And I didn’t have a breakdown.

Anyone else catch this on Twitter yesterday?

Nike Half Training Week 1

I have the Nike Training Club app on my phone and I really like it.  I did Kara Goucher’s Pro Running Stretches yesterday and I really felt it.  It’s a free app and the workouts are really easy to follow.  I’m going to incorporate this into my Best Body Bootcamp plan as well as increase the suggested mileage {since I have a race on Sunday}.

Totally frivolous and off topic: what did you think of Beyonce’s perfomance in the halftime show?  My twitter and Facebook feeds were filled with praise, but I hated it.  She barely sang, she just pranced around and flipped her head back and forth.  I’ve never been a big Beyonce fan and this performance didn’t do anything to change my opinion.

How was your weekend?

  1. Awesome about the food shopping! I think the praise for Beyonce was because it was the most entertaining show in several years. Paul McCartney? Boring. Black Eyed Peas? Awful. Beyonce? Dancing was awesome! But Steve hated it, too!

  2. I looove COSTCO! Seriously addicted. Try the Pumpkin Tortilla Chips. Also, that's where I get all my oatmeal - I'm trying this Earnest stuff right now, and it's great! I also just became a fan of Kroger and their Simple Truth product line. Some good stuff there!

I love that you took JD makeup shopping. I think that's such an awesome compromise, if you will. If she wants to wear makeup, you can teach her how to do it appropriately for her age by helping her shop. You get control still and she gets makeup. Win win!!

    1. Adding those tortilla chips to my list! I have to admit, Kroger has a much better selection of healthy foods than Meijer does. I may just have to make the switch...

JD has never been a girly girl so I didn't think she cared about makeup at all. She's thrilled with her new goodies (eye makeup and lip gloss - her skin is gorgeous and she doesn't need face makeup) so I guess this was a good compromise.

  3. Found you from the 28DBC. I also hated Beyonce's performance, I felt like she didn't even really sing. She would just scream out the chorus of 10 random songs, then makes some strange yelps and moans. Annoying!

    1. Hi Erin! Are you loving 28DBC? I've learned so much already and "met" some really great people.

I agree completely about Beyonce's performance! Our standards for talent in this country have seriously gone downhill.

  4. I love that NTC app! Never saw that post on twitter though - but cool that they incorporated it into the half plan.

I was barely paying attention to the Super Bowl. Never been a huge Beyonce fan so I didn't even watch.

What race do you have this weekend? Good luck!!!

    1. Local race...Riverview WinterFest Four Miler. It starting to look like I may be running it solo as my partner is having IT band issues and may have to bow out. Temps are supposed to be in the 40s so that's a bright spot...
