No, it's not the title of a rejected game show. It's a plea from me to you to help me figure out what this stuff is in my cupboard.
Sometimes I'm organized to the point that it's a detriment. I'll buy rice or other grains that come in a bag then I'll store the remainder in a jar or other container. Most of the time I'll label the container, like this:
Other times I won’t label them and I’m left with jars of “stuff” that I don’t know what to do with. Help me!!
This is a mix I bought at Trader Joe’s. I can’t remember what’s in it and, more importantly, how to cook it.
I have no idea what this is. It looks like steel cut oats to me but I have a {labeled} jar of steel cut oats and they are not the same.
I think this is Orzo, but I’m not sure. Once again, my lack of labeling has me stymied.
Do you store things in their un-original containers and later forget what they are or how to prepare them?

The first one looks like pearled couscous or barley to me. The second looks like cracked wheat or oat grouts. And I agree on the third, it looks like orzo or maybe long grain brown rice? Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely some couscous in that first one. Maybe if I cook it according to the directions for couscous it might turn out OK? Might as well try it...nothing to lose at this point!
DeleteI just read through some posts on an old blog from 2011 and discovered what's in that first mixture from TJ's: quinoa, orzo and couscous! Now I just need to figure out how to cook it...
DeleteHaha.. love this. Sadly, I have a grain-free household, though all I could probably recognize is rice or quinoa. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGee, thanks, Jen! LOL
DeleteHa, mystery grain. Cook it some random amount of time with unknown quantities of water and you'll be good to go.
ReplyDeleteLooked through your race list for 2013, can a brother talk you into training for a full 'thon? 16 weeks and you're done.
Beard! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLet me live through the half first and then maybe we'll talk about the full. Maybe.
