Riverview WinterFest Four Miler 2013

No mat at start means “official” time is calculated from gun time.  That is crap.  I was in the back of the line and this calculation kills my time, so I’m going with Garmin: 42:48.  And a new four mile PR!

Splits:

Mile 1 – 10:47

Mile 2 – 10:39

Mile 3 – 10:47

Mile 4 – 10:35

Pretty damn consistent.

This was my first solo race {I’ve run solo before, but I always go to the race with friends}.  I didn’t like it.  I sat in my car until two minutes before the start and jumped back in the car as soon as I finished.  It really didn’t feel like a race to me at all.

Other than that, I felt pretty good.  My mantra was “walking is not an option",” so when I started to get tired and wanted to take a break, I didn’t.  I really wanted a good time in this race and I knew I needed to push myself to get it.  I’m proud of myself for winning the mental challenge, especially when I had no one with me to hold me accountable.

  2. Nice job! I don't like going to races alone either.

While I know that some feel that walking is bad. I can actually run the same time if not faster by walking to get my breathing or head under control. I don't think of it as failure if I walk but part of the process!

    1. I don't think of walking as bad at all, but I really want to string more consecutive miles together to increase my endurance. Walking is definitely not equal to failure...we all need a break!

  3. What city was this race in? Are you doing any other races through RunMichigan? Maybe I can join you!

    1. It was in Riverview. I didn't run it through RunMichigan, they just happened to be there taking pictures for me to snag from their site! :) But I'd love to run a race with you!

  4. Great job Lori! You're right - the mental challenge is harder than the physical - but you did it because you ROCK :)

  5. You did great! The mental piece is always the hardest & I agree that gun times races aren't fair. I'd have used my garmin time too.
